Domestic cleaning work

Start with the towns you can reach

South Wales is a broad area. A useful cleaning round starts with realistic journeys, so tell us the towns and nearby communities you can cover rather than applying for everywhere at once. Your postcode and availability help our team understand which client opportunities may suit you.

Start with suitable clients and build a round that takes you into different local homes. You choose which opportunities to accept based on your availability and travel area. Plan reliable journeys between households and commit to each client’s agreed regular schedule.

The jobs you could help with

  • Kitchen surfaces and worktops
  • Bathrooms and toilets
  • Dusting and vacuuming
  • Mopping hard floors
  • Ironing and agreed household tasks

The client supplies the cleaning materials and equipment. Agree the tasks and time for each visit.

Is this right for you?

Good cleaning starts with people you can trust

High cleaning standards

You work carefully, notice the details and take pride in leaving a home clean.

Trust and reliability

You respect clients’ homes, arrive as agreed and communicate clearly if arrangements need to change.

References and checks

Two references plus identity, address and right-to-work checks. The final interview takes place at your home.

Applicants must be 18 or over and have the right to undertake self-employed work in the UK. Visits typically last 2 to 6 hours, usually weekly or fortnightly. Once you take on a client, you need to commit to their agreed regular schedule.

Before you apply

Read up before taking the next step

Read the cleaner handbook for more about cleaning through Maid2Clean and what is expected. It is a useful starting point before you fill in the application.

As a self-employed cleaner, you are responsible for your own tax and National Insurance arrangements. Our team can explain how the cleaning arrangements work and discuss the details with you.

South Wales applicants: your questions

What do I need to be eligible?

You can apply if you are 18 or over and have permission to undertake self-employed work in the UK. British and Irish citizens are eligible, along with people whose immigration status permits self-employment. All work through Maid2Clean is self-employed and eligibility checks come before starting.

What hours and regular visits can I offer?

Explain the hours you want and which journeys work for you. Clients usually need visits of 2 to 6 hours each week or fortnight. You need to commit to the regular schedule of any client you accept. A cleaning round grows over time as suitable opportunities arise.

Are Student visas compatible with self-employed cleaning?

Permission to work on a Student visa does not normally include self-employment. As all our cleaning work is self-employed, you must have current immigration permission that allows it. Check your individual visa conditions before applying. Read the GOV.UK Student visa guidance.

How physically active is domestic cleaning?

The work can be physically demanding and includes vacuuming, mopping, standing and bending. You need to manage the agreed cleaning tasks safely during a visit of at least 2 hours. Talk to us about reasonable adjustments for the work or when applying.

Do I take cleaning materials to each home?

Your clients supply the cleaning equipment and materials. Before each arrangement begins, discuss the tasks and any particular household requirements.

What vetting is needed before I clean for clients?

Two references and checks of your identity, address and eligibility for self-employed work are needed before starting. A local interviewer visits your home for the final interview and to explain the role.

Where can I find out about cleaner earnings?

The team will explain cleaner pay and available work before you decide to accept a client opportunity.

Can I choose which South Wales towns I cover?

Yes. Choose client opportunities around towns you can reach, such as Newport, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil or Pontypridd. Build a round in different homes that suits your availability, allowing reliable travel between the regular visits you agree.
